This queer artist continues his creative journey. His work focuses on boundaries, connections, and violations, asking what it means to be human.

He explores these themes through multiple media and disciplines such as animation, experimental writing, ink drawings, music, and oil painting.

He is inspired by the pursuit of emancipation from compliance and by an urge to understand the socially constructed lines in Europe. He is moved by the exploration of activist portraits, introspective self-portraits, and the blurred boundary between man-made and natural worlds, particularly through landscape photography.

His work has been influenced by Gia Edzgveradze’s existential and transcendent works Mind the Gap and Outlines of the White Manifesto, by Richard Long’s line-obsessed practice, and by the feminist The Doll series by surrealist artist Hans Bellmer.

Like Richard Long, lines are a recurring motif in Outhwaite’s work, not just as compositional elements but as metaphors for division, connection, and personal navigation. These lines chart the space between individuality and the collective, between belonging and exclusion. They reflect Outhwaite’s lived experience, particularly his encounters with discrimination and marginalisation. In this sense, his art is also an act of resistance, addressing injustice, inequality, and the fractures within society with both sensitivity and urgency.

Nature is another constant in his oeuvre, serving as both a grounding presence and a conceptual framework. Rather than merely representing the natural world, Outhwaite uses it to reflect on the symbiotic and often fraught relationship between humanity and the environment. This ecological awareness speaks to the interconnectedness of all life and the responsibilities that accompany it.

Outhwaite’s multidisciplinary approach is not merely aesthetic; it is philosophical. His refusal to be contained by artistic categories or societal norms embodies a larger invitation to re-examine how we define ourselves and others, to interrogate the borders we draw, and to envision new forms of relation.
