This manifesto outlines the artistic philosophy of Kaye Outhwaite, a contemporary interdisciplinary artist based in Belgium. It describes the core ideas that drive his work and connect the process to practice.

I follow my thread of life, seeking emancipation from compliance and the normative.
I refuse the boxes built to contain me, categories of gender, nationality, class, neurology and conformity.
Who I am crosses socially constructed lines. I exist in the margins, in-between spaces where the world’s rules lose authority.

My art comes from my soul
It is an act of defiance.
It refuses erasure.
It exposes the violence of boundaries and searches for connection beyond them.

I believe that every person has the right to freedom.
You do not earn it. It is yours by birthright.

I believe everyone has the right to exist as themselves.
The right to act and create meaning in their own image.
We are not bound by the definition of words.
We are not bound by capitalistic assessments of worth.
We are not bound by unjust and oppressive laws.

No one has the right to oppress another.
No government, no religion, no market, no ideology.
Oppression is the theft of life.
To deny someone’s freedoms is to deny your own humanity.

Will you be human?

Art is political because it insists on existing. It’s very presence is a protest.
It refuses silence.
It speaks against systems that divide, exploit, and dehumanise.
It builds bridges between those broken apart by power.

I create to reclaim what has been taken: identity, connection, hope.
Where belonging is chosen, not assigned.
Where difference is not treated as a threat, but strength.

I follow my thread of life,
not toward assimilation,
but toward liberation.
